Position:         Executive Director, New Orleans People Program

Status:             Full-Time / Exempt

Reports to:       New Orleans People Program Board of Directors

Description:     People Program seeks an Executive Director with excellent relationship and leadership skills to lead our membership community of learners, our team and our organization into the future. For nearly 50 years, People Program, a 501c3 and member of the Congregation of St. Joseph Mission Network, has been a vital contribution to New Orleans. We serve people 50 and older who are looking for creative ways to spend leisure time and remain both active and engaged. Our members represent diverse backgrounds, ranging in age from 50 to 90.  Our array of course offerings include exercise, technology, current events, dance, art, crafts, games, languages, music, and more at our two campuses (Eastbank and Westbank locations). We offer more than 100 courses to a member base of 200-500. In recent times have expanded our traditional in-person program to one that offers both in-person and virtual classes, and this model continues to evolve. The Executive Director serves as the face of People Program to the New Orleans community 


• Ensure that the Mission of New Orleans People Program and the Congregation of St. Joseph (CSJ) Mission Network are infused throughout the organization;

• Collaborate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and ongoing strategic direction/plan;

• Exercise a collaborative style of leadership that recognizes and utilizes the expertise, skills and gifts of others;

• Fiscal management and all fundraising efforts of People Program, including donor development, special events, researching grant opportunities, writing grant applications and reports.

• Recruit and retain a highly qualified staff and volunteer base

• Manage the program, finance and membership team

• Build relationships/partnerships with other appropriate organizations; engage in outreach activities to promote the People Program in the communities it serves;


• 5 or more years of progressive experience in the non-profit sector with demonstrated experience in management and leadership;

• Experience working with senior population preferred;

• Bachelors degree required;

• Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, Board of Directors, clients and local community organizations;

• Strong visioning and strategic leadership skills and ability to tap into and utilize the skills and strengths of colleagues;

• Strong organizational, professional verbal and written communication skills;

• Strong financial and fundraising skills and demonstrated ability to plan and manage a budget;

• Willingness to learn, appreciate and incorporate the CSJ Mission in day-to-day operations.
